Internet Radio Box 2.0 Announcement

We are excited to announce the next major version of Internet Radio Box!

Internet Radio Box 2.0 is a whole new application we have been redesigning and recoding from ground up to bring you a new experience.

These are just few of the features coming:

  • iPad & iPhone 4 support in addition to iPhone 3G/3Gs and iPod Touch.
  • New design & new fullscreen player look!
  • Widgets! Makes it easier to navigate compared to the TabBar navigation.
No place limitation when there are many widgets.
  • Cover Image! (If available)
  • Buy the song at iTunes! (If available)
  • TimeShift! You are able to pause the stream up to 8MByte (yet unclear whether to make this editable).
  • Vorbis/OGG format support and HE-AAC hardware support!
  • Landscape orientation support (except home screen on the iPhone).
  • RadioDeck directory will replace RadioBOX Directory.
  • RadioDeck favorites are stored online! Share your favorites between your favorite devices!
  • and more …

This update will be available for free to all Internet Radio Box users!

We are working hard to bring this update as soon as possible.
Our release date is set to mid August, if everything is going well.

Note: We encourage all radio broadcasters to join our network at www.RadioDeck.com

ThaiGirl @ July 28, 2010 10:21

wth… This Is Madness!!
I like it already! ^.^

TranceNW @ August 2, 2010 06:17

Will this support the iPhone 4′s Retina Display?

Arny @ August 2, 2010 23:58

Yes, and it looks just gorgeous!

Tom @ August 9, 2010 12:18

Will favourites be able to be grouped into folders?
I have a lot, folders would save a lot of time.

Dave @ August 13, 2010 22:16

Could we have editing of stations from the web interface please?

Arny @ August 14, 2010 12:59

Tom, not yet. We’ll see if we can provide it with later update.
Dave, as we need to rewamp the whole web interface to support radiodeck online favorites, we will have to exclude the web interface in the next update. Will be readded on later update again.

Right now we are working hard to port all the stations from radiobox directory to radiodeck. Hope to get finished soon.

Ralph @ August 18, 2010 12:15

Awesome, i hope the picture app will be better, because currently radio box is the only one on my homescreen that doenst support retina and looks kind of foogy.

Its no mid of august, when can i download it ;)

Mike @ August 20, 2010 00:23

Beautiful! Can’t wait. Also will there be an option to save the name of the song currently playing if RDS available? I would prefer it rather than memorizing it. Since my country is not supported to buy songs via iTunes, I am left for alternative song e-shops like 7digital, so It would be great if I could save information about songs which are playing in the app

Jan @ August 27, 2010 07:11

Servus,

Andy @ August 29, 2010 08:03

Great application for iPhone / iPod touch and clearly getting even better – but when will we get an Android version???

Henriette @ September 3, 2010 01:57

Just downloaded version 2.0
:-(
terrible interface
no help
can’t find my stations
what is the list of stations I see (who wants them how do I delete them)
:-(
this is so disappointing
unless you explain somewhere I will have to delete app!!!! Used to love it but new interface is anything but intuitive what is ice????? Looking at your reviews I am not alone here

Arny @ September 3, 2010 10:12

Hello Henriette,
I’m shocked by the negative reviews.
People actually didn’t like the old interface because they always had to switch back to home screen to get to their favorites. It wasn’t that intuitive.

This update was announced weeks before and we had only positive feedback. But now that.

We will bring the missing features with the next update.
Let people to disable featured stations. This stations are actually random selections that are made every 6hours. We are not getting money for that.

And there are few people working day and night to transfer all old stations to RadioDeck.
We try our best to improve the app, but there is no going back to the old interface now.

Brian @ September 3, 2010 13:35

I agree with Henriette. Terrible interface. Lists radio stations I dont want.

And why-oh-why are my favourites stored on your Server meaning I have to create yet another internet account and log in every time I want to access my favourites. Why? I suspects it’s so you can sell this info to the Radio Stations for promotional targetting! Or are you planning to charge us for using your service sometime in the near future?

Up until now I have recommended your app to everyone I know who has a Touch/iPhone because it was easy to use, had so many stations, and didn’t exploit the User. This release I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Sorry!

Arny @ September 3, 2010 14:09

Brian,
we take privacy very serious and never tended to sell any data.

The next update will give you the ability to store the RadioDeck streams locally.
We just wanted to offer a better service for free, but people seem to not liking it.
The new interface is nothing different to Apples home screen.
So we don’t see anything that is new or difficult to navigate or to find.

New update will give you a shortcut from the widget you are currently in to the full screen player, so you don’t have to go back to the home screen to see what’s currently playing.

Hope people will see the advantages of the new navigation, instead of a limited tab-navigation where you just have 4-5 buttons and less view space on the window.
You’re even able to use it in landscape mode which would be almost impossible using the old interface.
NavigationBar + Prompt + Tab-Navigation in landscape would leave at least 1-2 station visible inside a directory. That’s why probably YouTube app is portrait mode only.

Hope you see the advantages of the new interface.

bifi @ September 3, 2010 16:06

- Automatisch letzten Stream starten
- Webinterface

Spräche da was dagegen?

Arny @ September 3, 2010 17:02

bifi,

Pauline @ September 3, 2010 18:03

This is a disaster!!|! I live in Switzerland in a wheelchair and Radio Box Version 1 was keeping me sane by allowing me to listen to Australian and South African radio stations in English. Now you update the program and the interface is terrible and I lose all my Australian stations. I sit here crying and I try to uninstall but old version is no longer available in Ap store. I feel like you took away an important part of my life.
If something is not broken dont fix it

John @ September 4, 2010 15:03

Hi,
I’ve been looking forward to the iPad update for this great app. which gives me a slim DAB Radio with a great battery life unlike actual DAB radios. My previous favourites – basically the BBC Channels and a couple of others, imported flawlessly, however the stream info was missing and the station ident was the generic radio mast placeholder so I deleted them and redefined them from Radiodeck saving them as favourites. Of course this only saves them as online favourites so how can I get them saved on my device? I have to agree that a help option would be useful because can’t see the settings for wallpaper or any way to get those stations back into my stored favourites!
Still loving your app but would appreciate some help here.

Arny @ September 4, 2010 15:45

Hello John,
we will add local favorites for RadioDeck stations with the next update.

Wallpapers are available for iPhone only, since there is a fullscreen player. No fullscreen player for iPad yet.
I’d always recommend using online favorites, since you can’t lose them, no matter what happens to your device.

Rob @ September 4, 2010 15:54

It is reassuring to see that concerns over the update have not fallen on deaf ears.

I can see what you are saying arny about using a similar interface to the apple homescreen, however with only one option on the next area, it’s overly complex. I don’t see an issue with limited options in the previous version, you have made 3 different buttons for directories (4 including favourites) which all can sit under the same function like before (all easily reached on one tab).

i also agree that the iphone platform makes drastic changes harder to predict, where beta testers with users would probably have raised the issues before release.

My favourites also don’t work now as others have found.

The interface is the only issue for me. I rarely use anything but my favourites so I’d like the directories either grouped or off the main screen.

Andreas @ September 4, 2010 16:04

Arny @ September 4, 2010 17:27

Ok, thank you Rob & Andreas,

we will try to shorten the ways between the Favorites and Player.
But the design will have to stay, sorry.
We can’t bring the old interface back.

Thanks

John @ September 4, 2010 18:29

Thinking about it I don’t really miss wallpaper because to save battery I always turn the screen off once it’s playing and the online favourites are probably better – I had just got used to the old set up. Can’t understand the negative comments – it’s obviously people who don’t like change. The next big thing will be multitasking on the iPad, because playing in the background is where it’s at, but that is obviously down to Apple. Well done on the update – keep upnthe good work.

Alex @ September 4, 2010 22:18

Verstehst du was ich meine? :)

Mike @ September 5, 2010 08:51

Lg

Brian @ September 6, 2010 08:51

Arny, thanks for responding to my concerns on Friday.

Two requests:-
1. Rather than displaying three “random” radio stations at the top of the home screen, it would be good if I could select the stations that appear here.
2. When I select a radio stream could it display the progress of the buffering like the old version used to?

Do you know when the next release with local Favourites restored will be?

Arny @ September 6, 2010 15:33

Brian, as soon as possible.
We’d need 1-2 weeks including Apple approvement, if Apple will take about 1 week.
For quick play (instead of station details) we need to extend the RadioDeck service API for that.

Hans @ September 6, 2010 20:06

Hello, I was looking forward for this update but I was also disappointed. The biggest issue with me is the inability to create custom URL’s and name them on the favorites. This is because every time I try to create a favorite station and name it, the name gets erased the minute I turn the application off. Please, Please fix that bug on the next update! That is the biggest issue for me and all my friends!!!!
Thanks!

Hans @ September 6, 2010 20:09

This only happens when the created station is played, then turning off the app, soooooo annoying

Hans @ September 6, 2010 20:16

Also, the name of the you create is not displayed on the main interface. Sorry for rambling on but you spoiled us with the previous version :)

Aleksi @ September 7, 2010 10:50

This new version wont play asx-files. It’s very sad.

Arny @ September 7, 2010 12:49

Hans,
we’ve fixed this bug.
Coming with next update.

Aleksi, it plays asx files.
Please provide more info so we can check.

Hans @ September 7, 2010 15:54

Great!! Thanks arnie, looking forward for the next update. Great support!!

Mario toumie @ September 12, 2010 20:30

Hey I am having problem everytime I open the app it closes down. I have 4.0 os and 2nd gen iPod touch. Jailbreaked and not jailed it does the same stuff. Closes down after main first headset scen. Help.

Hans @ September 19, 2010 03:34

Hello Arny, what is the timeframe on the update?
Thx!

Brian @ September 21, 2010 07:40

Good morning Arny, you have restored my faith in IRB :)

Just got the new version and lo-and-behold all my old favourite radio stations are now in place once again. And I get a progress indicator when a radio station loads. And I don’t get radio stations that I am not interested in appearing on the home screen when the App loads up.

Thank you.

Arny @ September 21, 2010 14:27

Tanks Brian
Let’s hope other people will like it as well.

Hans @ September 23, 2010 12:07

Arny, great improvement, this is now the best radio app available!!
